Facebook is focused on giving people control over their experience so they can express themselves freely in the way they intend.
Privacy and Sharing
We provide simple and powerful tools that allow people to control what information they share and with whom. When you post a status update or photo on Facebook, in-line controls enable you to select your audience at the time you post.
A feature of Timeline, Activity Log is a single place where people can review and manage the things they’ve posted and the actions they’ve taken on Facebook. Facebook also offers tools and features that give people visibility of their information, such as “Download Your Information,” which enables people to retrieve their data for use outside of Facebook.
Since our founding in 2004, we’ve worked to provide a safer and more trusted environment - such as requiring that people use their real names.
Anyone can report inappropriate, offensive or dangerous content through “report” links found on almost every page of Facebook. Enhanced “Social Reporting” gives people the option to report content, send a copy of the content to a trusted friend, or block the person who posted it.
The Facebook Safety Advisory Board provides advice and feedback on product design and helps create resources for our Family Safety Center.
Facebook is dedicated to protecting people’s information on the service. Our Security teams work to keep the site clean from spam, phishing, malware and other security threats. We also use technology unique to Facebook to protect people. For example, when a user’s account is accessed from an unusual location, we use “social authentication” - asking them to identify a group of their friends from photos - before giving them access.

Safety Advisory Board
In 2009, Facebook formed a Global Safety Advisory Board, a group of five leading Internet safety organizations that provides advice on product design and helps us create comprehensive safety resources. The five organizations are: ConnectSafely, WiredSafety, Childnet International, The Family Online Safety Institute (FOSI) and The Safety Net Technology Project of the U.S. National Network to End Domestic Violence.
Stop Bullying, Speak Up
Facebook launched its Stop Bullying, Speak Up App in September 2011 to raise awareness of the simple yet powerful actions that parents, kids and educators can take to prevent bullying. The goal of the app is to inspire millions of bystanders to take action by speaking up when they see bullying and to grow a community committed to ending bullying. Learn more about the campaign.
